A small back yard becomes a flower-filled elegant courtyard in Shipley

An extension to the terraced house left a muddy patch of ground. The client wished to take advantage of the south west sun on the right side of the garden with a seat and raised bed to grow climbers up trellis for screening. She also wished to include a water feature reminiscent of 'levadas', water channels seen in Madeira. A little-used lawned front garden with large horse chestnut trees blocking light The client works from home and looks out on to this front garden. She wished to turn it into a haven for birds, bees and butterflies which she could appreciate but was new to gardening and didn't really know where to start. A series of raised beds for a hillside garden, Cleckheaton. 

The client's garden was a former farmyard which had previously been concreted and paved over for practical purposes. She wished to introduce some much needed colour and greenery to soften the hard lines, to be appreciated from the house, driveway and outdoor seating areas.
